It’s so rewarding to look back at our year and tally how much we and our partners have raised for worthy causes here in the Treasure Valley! Here’s how we raised thousands of dollars for people in need this year (and how you can do the same in 2020).
Casual Friday penalties
We’ve put a fun spin on casual Fridays — our employees are welcome to wear jeans, but they must pay a “penalty” of $1 for the privilege. We’ve raised almost $1,000 this way in 2019, and that money served as an added boost for other charitable donations.
Breast cancer awareness
So many of you bought a pink pen to support breast cancer awareness from our office in October, and your charitable acts have really paid off! We combined your donations with our casual Friday penalties and a portion of our October revenue to contribute $10,000 to the Mountain States Tumor Institute Patient Assistant Fund. Your business and generous support will help cancer patients and their families with emerging needs as they deal with treatment, including meal vouchers, gas cards, temporary housing, and medication. We’re honored to support this program.
Helping homeless families in need
We have a longstanding relationship with the non-profit CATCH, which helps the Treasure Valley’s most vulnerable neighbors find shelter. CATCH’s programs serve families with children by providing housing first, then working on any obstacles to self-sufficiency. CATCH Executive Director Stephanie Day tells us that December and January are especially pressing times for CATCH because so many homeless families move during the winter. “Home is a refuge: a place of safety to celebrate, mourn and rest,” she says. “At any given time approximately 178 families in Ada County do not have access to that place of refuge. They lose home, and frequently most, if not all of their belongings.” This December, we’re sponsoring one of those families by shopping and donating wishlist items.
We encourage you to join us in the spirit of giving this season! As the Treasure Valley grows, so do the needs of its people. Here are a few easy ways you can get involved.
- Sponsor a CATCH family yourself.
Did you know that there are an estimated 3,500 homeless students in the Treasure Valley? These kids attend school with your own children, and you can help them. Click here to donate financially.
- Encourage clients to donate unwanted furniture when they move.
CATCH families need help setting up their homes, and your clients can earn a tax write-off at the same time — a win-win! Learn how to donate furniture and home goods here.
- Donate a portion of your monthly sales to your favorite organization.
Even one or two percent adds up quickly!
- Schedule volunteering time with your team.
Why not take an afternoon off once a quarter to work at a homeless shelter or deliver new magazines and flowers to local hospitals to cheer up patients? Schedule a quick call with your favorite organization to see how you can help.
