Commercial real estate professionals have largely ignored social media in the past but it’s the largest untapped lead generating resource at your fingertips today. Adopting it now can give you an edge and differentiate you in our massively competitive market.

The great thing about social media is that, unlike traditional advertising, it requires almost no overhead. If your goal is to build a following, all you need to do is invest your time.

Here are three ways to use social media to grow your business right now!

Engage.

The fastest way to grow a following is to engage. What does that mean, exactly? It’s not unlike working a room — you’ll need to identify prospective tenants and investors. Introduce yourself by sending personal, direct messages. Present yourself as someone competent and trustworthy and interested in building a relationship. Video messages are particularly effective and memorable. In fact, 60 percent of people will opt to play a video rather than read a message.

Produce educational content.

Today’s investor, tenant, seller, or buyer is looking to grow through education. You might not feel like you have much to offer, but you certainly do:

  • Tell a helpful story
  • Give market data
  • Share investment tips and strategies
  • Post interesting tidbits about what’s available on the market
  • Share your market projections

If you have a lot of knowledge in a particular niche, cultivate your audience so they begin to think of you as an expert. But really, any educational content will help your ideal client stay engaged and start saving your posts.

Show up consistently.

Let’s be real: You’re not going to get 10,000 followers overnight. Getting results through social media takes time. It is an investment but it does pay off! Keep going and post daily. Consistency helps your ideal client to see you as the expert.
